Looking for the best gluten free York has to offer? Whether you’re visiting the city or a local searching for safe and tasty places to eat, York has some great gluten free destinations. In-fact, these finds are so good, even you non-gluten free friends and family will love them. In this guide to gluten free York, I’ll share some of the top places to eat for the best gluten free food across the city.
Pig and Potato

This is set to be my new favourite restaurant in York and for good reason. The Pig and Potato is a 100% gluten free kitchen (we love to see it!) and specialises in the ultimate comfort food – sausage and mash. And this isn’t just any old sausage – they’re made from free range pork and are huge! Don’t skimp on the bar snacks either because these offerings are divine – from deep fried hallomi to the best gluten free focaccia I’ve ever had.
Ippuku Teahouse

This cute teahouse is tucked away on Blake Street and easy to miss. But if you find it, the place is an absolute gem. Not only is most of their menu gluten free, but pretty much all their desserts are too, and they have a great range of vegan options.
It’s quite rare to find gluten free Japanese restaurants in the UK so I love visiting here. My favourite dishes include donburi rice bowls, the Teishoku set (main, rice, miso soup, pickles and veg) and the strawberry and cream matcha roll.
The place is quite small, so I recommend booking a table, especially on weekends.
Florian Piorot

Imagine the best macarons you’ll ever taste – that’s Florian Piorot. Their shop on the Shambles sells macarons of every flavour and they’re all naturally gluten free. Picking up a few macarons and trying different flavours has become a staple for us on any trip to York.
They also have a cafe at the back of the shop, where you can sit and enjoy your macarons with a coffee.
Monk Bar Chocolatiers

Their chocolate tastes magical. It’s gluten free. They’re on the Shambles and they even sell chocolate frogs. And, their viral chocolate shot, which consists of a chocolate shot glass filled with melted chocolate, is gluten free! It’s great when we don’t have to miss out on viral foods.
Tricolour

Tricolour serves Colombian street food and most of the menu is naturally gluten free. If I’m looking for a tasty, quicker option than a full sit-down meal, this is where I’ll head. Highlights include empanadas, arepas and generous portions of loaded fries.
And that’s my guide to the yummiest gluten free spots in York. Which one are you hitting up first?
